One of the principles of magic

Ultimately the source of our passion in life, our motivation, our deep desire, our intent....is what is in our heart. The paradox is that we are designed, because of fear and vulnerability, to protect our heart. The result of that is we get cut off from the deepest desires of the heart and have trouble projecting and pursuing them. As a result, we magicians are not so much interested in fixing the thoughts and feelings that are an expression of this vulnerability, but in uncovering the vulnerability itself. There we can make contact with what is in our heart and begin following that. And as we follow that, the thoughts and feelings that represent our fear and our vulnerability will arise naturally to resist us. But now, once the heart's power has been unleashed in this way, we have a power that is ultimately stronger than that resistance, and will eventually win over it, leaving it a weak force overshadowed by the strong.

*** One of the ways to free the heart from some of the vulnerability that makes it inaccessible is to expand the sphere of protection around it. The use of the pentagram, once energized correctly then projected in all six directions is one of the ways to build that.
