People often ask me, "what is the purpose of all this training, this spiritual practice, this exploration, where is it heading; why do we feel compelled to do it?"
Recently I journeyed to a place where I was barred from entering. It was explained to me that this was 'before.' I didn't understand what that meant and so the guide agreed to accompany me on a short journey as long as I said nothing, which actually meant, 'think nothing.' That was impossible for more than a few moments and I noticed that with each thought the terrain was modified.
That immediately landed us back at the entrance to this world where I was told that this realm of being is where everything is created just by thinking about it. In our world thinking is predominant but there 'sympathetic experience' dominates; thought is only used to create things, or change the terrain, and thus it is used carefully.
I was further informed that we cannot go there until we have learned to master our mind in a particular way and learned the required ethics. The earthly sojourn, as well as adventures in other realms, is the training ground.
It appears that our entry to the land of 'before' is barred because of how messy we have become. I wonder, is it 'before' because we fell from there, or 'before' because it is a dimension of causality - a dimension where what is actually causal in the universe is experienced directly rather than indirectly with many degrees of separation between 'cause' and 'effect'.
Perhaps both are true.
